Passwords have been around for thousands of years, long before computers ever existed. Their use goes back as far as biblical times and the Roman Empire. Most of us have been trying to get our passwords under control since the beginning of the computer age.
Passwords are essentially used to authenticate a user. PassKeys are a new and potentially better way to do just that. If you have had difficulty controlling your passwords and are frustrated with them, passkeys may be a good alternative.
This class will discuss passwords, passkeys, and general security concerns, and some of the techniques employed to mitigate potential security problems.

Music can be played on all of your devices: computer, tablet, smartphone and car infotainment system, all you need is a music player and music files. A music player App typically comes with most smartphones, computers, and newer cars. Music files can be purchased or obtained from any of the CDs in you9r Music CD collection. This class will explore music, music files, and music players. The class will also demonstrate how to use Windows Media Player to convert (Rip) music on your CDs to files you can play on all your devices.

This class is designed for those new to computers. We’ll answer essential questions like:
• How do I use a computer?
• Where do I start?
• How can I find more help?
We’ll begin with a hands-on activity to help you customize your desktop. You’ll also learn how to send emails and browse the internet with confidence. Through interactive exercises and real-world examples, you’ll develop fundamental computer skills.
Additionally, we’ll cover the basics of computer organization, including:
• Understanding file paths, extensions, and storage
• Finding and managing photos and files
• Creating and organizing folders and subfolders
• Moving and copying files for better accessibility
By the end of this class, you’ll have the foundational knowledge and confidence to navigate and use a computer efficiently.

There are so many choices - where does one begin? This class discusses how much RAM you will require, which kind of drive suits your needs, whether to buy it online or in person, and if a warranty is worth the expense. There will be a demonstration on how to look up CPU ratings using cpubenchmark.net, as well as how to best utilize the websites from companies like Amazon and Costco. We will also be examining the tricks both manufacturers and retailers use to confuse the consumer.
This class is step one in understanding your options, and it is better to purchase a new computer when you have time to evaluate the alternatives and think about your preferences. Buying a computer in a panic can lead to disappointment and remorse. Your instructor, Linda Grabowski, understands that you may not have bought a PC in a long time and welcomes questions.
