Special Summer Offer for Computer Club Members Only
What’s New this Summer?
Our Smartphone SIG (Special Interest Group)
The Computer Club Board has decided to implement a pilot program this summer: a new Smartphone Special Interest Group (SIG) which will meet monthly. Since we don’t offer classes from June through September, this will provide another educational opportunity exclusively for our Club members.
What’s a SIG? Computer Clubs generally cover a wide range of technology. Special Interest Groups, however, can be established within the Club to allow members to meet separately and focus on a specific area of knowledge, learning or technology.
The purpose of a Computer Club SIG is to further the education of the Club’s members in a particular field of interest. Our Smartphone SIG will include both iPhones and Android phones.
Who will lead the Group? Paul Fales and Phil Sorrentino will be the leaders of the SIG, and one or both of them will facilitate each meeting.
What happens in the meetings? The topics discussed at each SIG meeting will vary depend- ing on the interest of the specific meeting attendees and some previously determined sub- jects. Some of these subjects may be related to Smartphone technologies, hardware, features, capabilities, and apps like Settings, Camera, Mail, Texting, Photos, SpeedTest, Maps, Music Player, Video Player, Browsers, File Managers, and many others that give the Smartphone its varied capabilities.
What is the meeting schedule? The Smartphone SIG will meet on the 4th Wednesday of June, July, August, and September this year. Meetings will begin at 10am and are expected to end at approximately 11:30am or noon, as needed.
Can non-Computer Club members attend the meetings? No, these meetings are for Club Members only.
How large will the meeting be? Registration for each meeting will be limited to 15 Club members, with a waiting list limited to 5 members.
What does it cost? Nothing. There is no charge for SIG meetings.
How can I register? And when? To register for the meeting, come to the Computer Lab and use the signup sheets on the clipboard located at the front counter.
Registration will begin on the 1st Wednesday of the month for the meeting to be held on the 4th Wednesday of that month.

Scammers frequently change their approach, trying new tactics and messaging to trick us. This class will cover many current scams. How to identify scam emails will be discussed, with many real examples. Instructor is Leslie Cox.

There are so many choices - where does one begin? This class discusses how much RAM you will require, which kind of drive suits your needs, whether to buy on-line or in person, and if a warranty is worth the expense. There will be demonstrations on how to look up CPU ratings using cpubenchmark.net, as well as, how to use websites from companies like Amazon. We will also be examining the tricks both manufactures and retailers use to confuse the consumer. This class is step one in understanding your choices.

Copy your Pictures to your Computer
This class is for Android Smartphones.
Most of us take many pictures with our Smartphone camera and leave the pictures on the camera, now that memory cost has become reasonable. On the phone, a particular picture may be difficult to find because the pictures are kept in chronological order without any useable picture file name. An alternative is to move the pictures to your computer and name and organize the pictures for your convenience, providing an ability to find a particular picture. This class will demonstrate three ways to copy your pictures from your Android Smartphone to your computer.
Your instructor is Phil Sorrentino.
Beginning Genealogy
This class will focus on the two main databases for Genealogy in the world – Family Search.org and Ancestry.com. Information needed to take the class is a basic knowledge of operating a computer.
Please bring names, dates of birth and death of your parents and grandparents and any other further generations from past generations if you have them.
Your instructor is Judy Lee.
